New from Downtown Artists: country/pop debut EP 'Gypsy Lane' by singer/songwriter Chloe Swaby, featuring her unique blend of acoustic pop and American country music. The lead track titled ‘Racing Car’ was released end of 2010, but due to demand and constant profile building her debut 6 track EP is going to be released on June the 13th This comes highly anticipated by her rapidly growing fan base that include Rugby player Jamie George and fashion designer Karen Millen who recently invited Chloe along to perform at 2 charity gigs.
‘Primed for Radio, ‘Racing Car lead single from Gypsy Lane’ is pure country-pop. Piano, electronic guitars and layered vocals adding polish and momentum to a song that uses the exhilaration and speed of a race car as a metaphor for an irresistible, adrenaline filled relationship’ - Girly Sounds blog
Chloe is a daughter of an enthusiastic footballer and a keen dancer; Chloe Swaby is a young woman of contrasts. As a child she's been a tom-boy, playing football and hockey with the boys, and, at the same time perfecting her ballet dancing. In her music, she likes the pure and organic and simple, but at the same time she loves coming up with super-catchy-hit-potential choruses for her songs. Even when it comes to the genre itself, Chloe is moving between two poles, one draws from English folk (Newton Faulkner, James Morrison) and the other from American acoustic singer/songwriter music (Tracy Chapman), an exciting combination that won her a residency in the popular Mahiki club in London.
Love is something Chloe never gets tired of writing about. Inspiration comes from her personal life, people she knows and the world. The realization that love is not corny, but a most complex and universal subject, is highly influential on both Chloe's life and music. Having lived in Ghana, Africa, where she stayed with a local family and worked as a volunteer at a local school and a hospital. Chloe witnessed the heartbreaking conditions in which people in third-world countries have to live with but at the same time how effectively they manage to lead happy lives. This experience led her to question why so many people are always on a never ending chase after a better life that might be waiting out there, and consequently she started appreciating what she left behind her, back at home. Chloe came back to the UK with an urge to do something to help those in need. She has been and still is a very active contributor to many charity events.
In addition to all of the above, Chloe has recently been asked to support Chase and Status and Katy B at a high profile gig at the end of May. After that Chloe will be touring around the UK and will be playing an exclusive set at 93Feet East in Brick Lane, London on the 30th May.
Chloe’s debut EP ‘Gypsy Lane’ is a real mixture of acoustic, melodic vibes, strong pop catchy hooks and music that really has that feel good effect. Her lyrics cater to the masses, and are relatable for people of any age. Her ethereal rawness in her tone, sits nicely on some classy pop production. Chloe will also be touring in conjunction with the release of the EP.
